(BEDFORD) - A Mitchell man was injured in a two-vehicle accident on State Road 37 on Saturday afternoon.
According to a Lawrence County Sheriff's Department report, 22-year-old Travis Duncan of Mitchell was traveling west on Doc Hamilton Boulevard in Mitchell when his brakes and power steering failed in his 1999 Dodge Ram pickup.
Duncan told police he had just replaced the hydroboost in his truck and when he applied his brakes the pedal went to the floor.
Duncan was unable to stop at the intersection and continued west into traffic on State Road 37 colliding with a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 31-year-old Zachary Kirkman of Mitchell.
After the collision, Duncan's truck continued west onto TV Tower Road and came to a stop.
A witness to the accident told police it appeared Duncan was traveling around 60 to 65 miles per hour and did not use his brakes when he T-boned Kirkman's vehicle.
Duncan was not injured. Kirkman suffered a head injury and was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for treatment.
Duncan was issued citations for a seat belt violation and failure to stop at a stop sign. Duncan told police he did not have insurance on his truck.
Assisting at the scene was an AMR ambulance crew and first responders from Marion Volunteer Fire Department.
