(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police have charged 19-year-old Dylan Jacobs with having sex with a 14-year-old female he met through the social media app Whisper.
Jacobs is facing a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor. He posted bond Wednesday and was released from jail.
Jacobs' arrest came six days after Bloomington Fire Department Capt. Robert Sears of Mitchell was arrested on a charge of child solicitation and two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor. Investigators say that during February and March, Sears engaged in sex with the girl twice: once in a room at Bloomington's Motel 6 and another time at Griffy Lake.
Bloomington Police Lt. John Kovach says both arrests stem from an investigation that began in March 27 after police received information from school officials that the 14-year-old may have been having sex with a man she met on Whisper.
The victim told a teacher's aide she knew Jacobs was 19.
During an interview at Susie's Place, a child advocacy center, the girl said she met Jacobs on Whisper months ago, and that they had sex at his apartment and a second time in his car.
Jacobs admitted he had met the girl on Whisper in February and knew the girl was a minor. He also admitted to having sex with the teen.
Police discovered the girl was also having sexually explicit conversations with Sears.
Sears remains in the Monroe County Jail. His initial hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday in Monroe Circuit Court. He has hired Bloomington Attorney Sam Shapiro to represent him.
Sears was arrested early Friday, April 6th after police after a detective, posing as the 14-year-old girl in text messages, lured Sears to a late-night meeting at a house where he believed the teen and her friend were staying overnight with no adults present to have sex with them.
"Some of the communication from Sears was quite vulgar and graphic in describing sexual activity," Bloomington Police Deputy Chief Joe Qualters says.
Sears allegedly stopped at the Krogers on Old State Road 37 on the way to the home and bought condoms.
Whe Sears arrived at the home Bloomington Police Detectives were waiting for him and stopped his truck as he drove by the home.
Police recovered Sears' cell phone opened to his Whisper conversations.
Inside his vehicle police recovered condoms, two guns, sex toys and lubrication gel.
The Bloomington Board of Public Safety is scheduled to convene in a special meeting to make a decision on Sears' employment at a Bloomington firefighter. As of now he is on administrative leave pending the board's decision.
