(LOOGOOTEE) - On Saturday, Martin County Police conducted an address verification on a registered sex offender in Loogootee that led to a search warrant and two arrests.
At 6:49 p.m. Martin County Deputy Deputy Tyler Reed was conducting an address verification on a registered sex offender south, of Loogootee. When he arrived at the home, Deputy Reed smelled the distinct odor of burnt marijuana.
When he knocked on the door a small child and the offender Charles Taylor answered.
When the door was opened the odor became stronger, confirming the odor was coming from inside the home.
Deputy Reed completed the sex registration verification and left.
He then contacted Martin County Prosecutor Mike Steiner and requested a search warrant for the home, which was granted by Martin Circuit Court Judge Lynne Ellis.
At 10:24 p.m., Deputy Reed, Deputy Cody Shinn, Reserve Deputy Harmon, Loogootee Police Officer Jim Floyd, and Indiana State Trooper Adam McBeth, arrived back at the residence to execute the search warrant.
Martin County Department of Child Services also responded due to the presence of minors in the home.
During a search of the home, police found marijuana, several items of drug paraphernalia, and a pipe containing residue that field tested positive for meth.
Police arrested Taylor on charges of maintaining a common nuisance, two counts of neglect of a dependent, possession of meth and marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Also arrested was Christopher Ruble on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and visiting a common nuisance.
