(SALEM) - The Washington County Historical Society announces the arrival of its 6th coin in the Washington County Commemorative Coin Collection.
This beautiful 2" pewter coin pays respect to the pioneer Quakers who were tremendously instrumental in the founding and settling of our county.
They were also extraordinarily influential on the level of importance placed on educating our county's youth from our earliest days of settlement.
This coin features the colorized image of the Blue River Friends Church, established in 1829, on ground donated by Samuel Lindley, after dividing from the Blue River Friends Hicksite Church. The backside prominently displays the old Blue River Academy, which grew regional recognition for its educational reputation and impressive curriculum.
All coins from the collection, including the 2.5" County Courthouse coin, are still available for purchase, but supplies are limited. All proceeds will go to benefit the preservation needs of the John Hay Center.
Coins are available for $15 each. Pick yours up at the Stevens Museum, located at 307 E. Market St. in Salem, during normal operating hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
