(BEDFORD) - Two Bedford residents are facing felony charges of child neglect.
Bedford Police arrested 18-year-old Mackenzie Henderson and 21-year-old Michael Parker, Thursday after neglecting children they were asked to watch.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Bedford Police Department officers were called to a home on E Street regarding three children running around in the road unsupervised.
When police arrived officers found the children in the road with no adult supervision. Police approached the home and announced they were there. They entered through the open front door, but no one answered their calls.
Police say the home was in an unhealthy living condition with trash everywhere and dog feces and urine on the floor.
Police found Henderson and Parker asleep in bed with the odor of burnt marijuana in the room.
Parker told police that his brother Jimmy was to wake him to watch the children when Jimmy left for work, but he didn't.
The couple were watching the children while Parker's mother, who is also the children's legal guardian, tended to a sick relative.
While police were speaking with Parker and Henderson it took Parker more than 15 minutes to ask where the 1-year-old was.
The toddler was found inside a van parked close to the home.
Parker's bond is set at $7,500 surety, or $755 cash. Henderson is being held without bond. Both remain in the Lawrence County Jail.
