(OOLITIC) - The Oolitic Fall Festival now Salt Creek Fall Festival and is no longer affiliated with the Town of Oolitic.
"Basically, the State Board of Accounts wanted us to be more involved," said Glenn Gross, Town of Oolitic Council member.
According to Gross, the Indiana State Board of Accounts advised the council to be more involved in the planning and organizing of the Oolitic Fall Festival if the festival's funding account was to remain with the Town of Oolitic.
Historically, the festival has been organized and planned entirely by volunteers unaffiliated with the Town of Oolitic with no involvement from the council.
Gross said, "The State Board of Accounts said, 'You really have no control of the money. Its the town's money and you should be involved.'"
In response, the members of the council, except for Gross, voted against keeping the Oolitic Fall Festival as an Oolitic affiliated event.
"I was the only one to vote to keep the festival. It doesn't cost us anything... just time. I don't know how that's all going to go. I wish them [Salt Creek Festival organizers] the best. Its too bad for the residents and tax payers to miss out on it," said Gross.
The vote caused the festival to lose their affiliation with the Town of Oolitic's insurance policy and event location.
Heather Machida, Salt Creek Festival Organizer, said because Salt Creek Flea Market stepped up and provided the space and by association, insurance, the festival was renamed after them.
