(BEDFORD) - The membership and communication director of the Bedford Chamber of Commerce was arrested early Monday morning after he laid down his motorcycle on US 50.
Lawrence County Sheriff deputies arrested 27-year-old Zarod Myers of Bedford on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 or greater. He was also cited for violating his motorcycle learner's permit for operating the motorcycle after dark.
According to Sheriff Mike Branham, around 1:49 a.m. a deputy was traveling west on US 50 East when he noticed a motorcycle on Limestone Run Road headed toward US 50.
When the officer topped the hill he noticed the motorcycle on its side in a ditch and a man attempting to lift it.
"The officer stopped to see if he could assist or if the driver needed medical attention," says Sheriff Branham. "He noticed the male, later identified at Zarod Myers, was unsteady on his feet and staggering and the officer could smell the distinct odor of alcohol."
The officer gave Myers several field sobriety test which he failed.
"He was then taken to the station where he blew a 0.172," added Sheriff Branham.
Myers was arrested without incident.
