(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man lost a portion of his left leg and suffered a collapsed lung after he crashed his pickup truck into a tree on Tunnelton Road early Saturday morning.
According to a Lawrence County Sheriff's Department report, 39-year-old Jason Pack of Bedford was traveling south on Tunnelton Road near Sunny Acres Drive when his 2012 Ford F150 went left of the center line into the opposite lane, went off the roadway and collided with a tree.
Pack was trapped inside the pickup and was freed by firefighters from the Bedford Fire Department and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department.
After being freed, Pack was transported by ambulance to Virgil I Grissom Municipal Airport and picked up by a Stat-Flight helicopter and transported to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment.
According to a witness, a male passenger fled the scene before police arrived. Later in the day police were informed that the male was at IU Health Hospital being treated for back pain. William Arp III, 28, of 704 V St., was treated and released.
