Bloomington Police Arrest Man On Kidnapping Charges

Last updated on Tuesday, May 15, 2018

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested on kidnapping charges Sunday night after police we informed that a woman was missing after meeting with her distraught ex-boyfriend.

According to Bloomington Police Capt. Steve Kellams, the woman's husband reported his wife left about 7 p.m. on Sunday to meet with 30-year-old Bryan Maddin. The female called her husband around 9:50 p.m. and he could hear arguing in the background. He was worried for his wife's safety and called police.

Officers were able to locate the woman by pinging her cell phone. They found her inside a van with Maddin at Cartop State Recreation Area at Lake Monroe, off East Stipp Road.

The woman told police that she had met Maddin in a parking lot in the 700 block of West 17th Street, where he took her car keys and threw them across the street. He then forcefully grabbed her, picked her up and carried her to the van, locking her inside. He then drove her away and wouldn't let her out of the van.

Maddin told police the two were just out driving and talking about their relationship.

Maddin was arrested early Monday morning on charges of kidnapping, strangulation, criminal confinement and battery.
