(NASHVILLE) - A Brown County man was sentenced to serve nine years in prison on child molesting charges.
A jury found 21-year-old Troy Mace guilty of a Level 3 felony and Level 4 felony charge of child moelsting after Mace has sexual contact with a 12-year-old girl. Mace claimed during his trial that he did not know the girl was only 12. The legal age of consent in Indiana is 16.
The Brown County Democrat reported the girl and her brother both testified during the trial that they had told Mace more than once she was only 12.
Judge Judith Stewart sentenced Mace on May 14th to serve nine years in the Indiana Department of Corrections with eight years executed on the Level 3 child molesting count and six years - all to be served - on the Level 4 felony count. Mace was ordered to participate in a sex offender treatment program while in prisons. He will serve one year on supervised probation after his release and will be required to register as a sex offender.
