(BEDFORD) - Candidates Michelle Woodward and Dan Wade avoided fines for no or improper disclaimers on campaign yard signs.
At a meeting with the Lawrence County Election Board Thursday, Woodward and Wade each attended a hearing for issues with not properly displaying who paid for their campaign signs.
Indiana Election Code requires candidates have labels of who paid for their signs displayed on both sides of their sign.
According to minutes of the meeting, Woodward told the board that she printed stickers and placed them on every sign she could when she heard of the violation. However, Election board member Don Robertson says that during a personal inspection of Woodward's signs he found multiple signs that did not have labels on them.
Woodward told the board she would place stickers on her signs by the end of the day Thursday.
The board voted 2-1 in favor of giving Woodward until the end of the day Thursday to do that and avoid any fines. Robertson voted against the proposal.
Wade, who is running for Lawrence County Council District 1 seat, was found to have one sign violation - on one sign in the parking lot at Four Points in Mitchell at the the intersection of Teke Burton Drive and Main Street.
Wade had built a cradle for the sign with two-by-four wooden pieces, which inadvertently covered up his disclaimer. To remedy his violation, Wade printed stickers of his large disclaimers and put it on each wooden piece of the sign cradle
Williams says the board will reconvene at a later date to discuss adjusting local election rules to further specify font size and rules for disclaimers of signs and literature of various display sizes.
