(JACKSON CO.) - An 89-year-old man has died following a head-on collision on Saturday in rural Jackson County.
Just before 6 p.m., authorities were dispatched to the area of US 31 and County Road 275 North.
According to police a 2004 Chevy Cavalier, driven by 89-year-old Herbert Hollin of Crothersville, crossed the center line on US 31 and collided with a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer driven by 58-year-old Jeffrey Haag of Seymour.
Hollin was transported to the hospital where he later passed away.
His passenger, 83-year-old Fern Hollin, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. She was later flown to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment.
Haag was transported by family members to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, according to police. The extent of his injuries are unclear at this time. Hagg's passenger, 54-year-old Sheila Hagg, was transported to an Indianapolis hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
As a result of the collision, US 31 was closed for approximately one hour for crash investigation and cleanup.
Investigators believe a possible medical condition may have led to Herbert Hollin's vehicle crossing the centerline.
