(BEDFORD) - Fire destroyed a home in the 12010 block of Tunnelton Road.
The fire was reported at 9:51 a.m. by a neighbor who noticed the fire and called 911.
When firefighters from Shawswick, Marion and Indian Creek and Carr Township Volunteer Fire Departments arrived, the home was engulfed in flames.
TOPES and the Red Cross also responded to the scene.
According to Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bobby Brown, no one was home at the one-story house (owned by Roger Webster) when firefighters arrived. Firefighters battled the blaze for more than 3 hours.
"The Red Cross provided Roger and his wife and five children housing assistance," says Chief Brown.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
"We know the fire started in the middle of the home," Chief Brown added. "The cause is still under investigation."
The fire destroyed the home and two-car garage and all the families belongings along with a motorcycle parked in the garage.
Firefighters returned to the fire around 2:45 p.m. when the blaze rekindled. Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours.
Donations for the family are being accepted beginning at 5:30 p.m. today at the White River Baptist Church, 7694 Tunnelton Road.
