IU Auditorium Announces 2018-19 Season Featuring Award-Winning Broadway Shows

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Indiana University Auditorium 2018-19 season launches in October, featuring award-winning Broadway shows, contemporary and classical musical acts, dance, and family-friendly favorites. The season will run through April 2019.

The season includes national tours of Tony-winning Broadway musicals "Chicago" and "Monty Python's Spamalot" as well as new musicals "Elf the Broadway Musical," "Something Rotten" and "Finding Neverland"; a night of masterful jazz by Branford Marsalis and his quartet; a holiday season concert by Straight No Chaser; a special 50th-anniversary performance of "Dennis James Hosts Halloween"; a performance and educational residency by The Cleveland Orchestra; and much more.

"We at IU Auditorium have the privilege of delivering a variety of world-class arts and entertainment right to Bloomington's doorstep, from circus acts to Straight No Chaser, mariachi to Monty Python, and everything in between," said Doug Booher, executive director of IU Auditorium. "We're especially excited for the opportunity to connect these artists to our community this season. Plus, this year, IU students will be featured alongside prominent artists such as The Cleveland Orchestra and Dennis James during their performances. We look forward to bringing a season of experiences that our community can join in and enjoy."

To get the best possible seats, patrons may become IU Auditorium subscribers by choosing five or more season events. They can purchase these using a variety of payment options, including payroll deduction for IU employees and bursar billing for IU students.

2018-19 IU Auditorium Season

• "Chicago," Oct. 10 and 11: The longest-running American musical in Broadway history tells a universal story of fame and fortune.
• "Dennis James Hosts Halloween," Oct. 26: The world-renowned cinema organist and IU alum celebrates his 50th-anniversary performance with "The Phantom of the Opera."
• "Monty Python's Spamalot," Oct. 30 and 31: This cheeky musical features lavish sets and costumes of medieval times, as well as the classically laughable "Monty Python" skits.
• "Elf the Broadway Musical," Nov. 13 and 14: Join Buddy the elf as he embarks on a journey from the North Pole to the Big Apple to find his father.
• "Chimes of Christmas," Dec. 1: A holiday spectacular with performances by IU Jacobs School of Music ensembles, including the Grammy-nominated Singing Hoosiers.
• Straight No Chaser, Dec. 13: These IU-born local legends turned international stars are back for another holiday performance.
• The Cleveland Orchestra, Jan. 23: The Cleveland Orchestra, now in its 100th year, will perform a breathtaking performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 2.
• "Rent" 20th-Anniversary Tour, Jan. 28 and 29: This Pulitzer Prize-winning musical follows the story of a year in the lives of seven friends living in New York City's East Village.
• Mariachi Los Camperos, Feb. 9: This Grammy Award-winning band, founded by the late Natividad "Nati" Cano, brought the mariachi performance out of the traditional venue -- the catinas -- and into the concert hall.
• "Something Rotten," Feb. 27 and 28: This hilarious smash tells the story of brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom who, stuck in the shadow of "rock star" Shakespeare, set out to write the world's very first musical.
• Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, March 19: The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is renowned for celebrating the human spirit through the African-American cultural experience and the American modern dance heritage.
• "Reversible," April 2 and 3: Montreal-based circus company 7 Fingers tells the stories of the generation who forged the world we live in today.
• An Evening with Branford Marsalis, April 6: This three-time Grammy Award winner, along with the Branford Marsalis Quartet, brings an unparalleled energy to the art of jazz.
• "Finding Neverland," April 23 and 24: This musical follows author J.M. Barrie as he finds the inspiration for his beloved childhood story, "Peter Pan."
