(LOOGOOTEE) - The Martin County Police arrested two people after a traffic violation was committed on US 50 early Tuesday morning.
Martin County Sheriff's Office Deputy Tyler Reed initiated the traffic stop on East Broadway Street, in Loogootee.
Loogootee Police Department Sgt. Rick Norris and Indiana State Trooper Kurtis Blunk arrived to assist.
Deputy Reed then utilized his narcotics-certified canine partner Virka who did a free air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle. Virka alerted the deputy to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.
Police searched the vehicle and found two smoking devices containing residue that field tested positive for meth, a spoon containing residue, a metal container containing a white crystal substance, a plastic bag containing residue that all tested positive for meth. Officers also located a smoking device containing burnt material with the odor of burnt marijuana, and a green leafy plant-like substance that field tested positive for marijuana.
Police arrested 35-year-old Jason Lentz of Columbus, and 34-year-old Kristin Roberts of Nashville on charges of possession of meth, and drug paraphernalia. Lentz was also charged with possession of marijuana.
