1. NSWC Crane Procured $1.2 Billion in Products and Services Last Fiscal Year
Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) is located on the 3rd largest Navy installation in the world, covering approximately 100 square miles.
NSWC Crane is one of Indiana's largest high-tech employers with over 2,000 scientists, engineers and technicians. NSWC Crane's reach is global, and at any given time, hundreds of its more than 3,200 employees are supporting the Warfighter around the world.
NSWC Crane procured $1.2 billion in products and services last fiscal year (FY), with approximately $52 million going to Hoosier businesses and $48 million paid to Indiana small businesses. For companies headquartered outside the state but performing work in Indiana, Crane obligated just over $248 million, of which $83.5 million was performed by small businesses.
2. NSWC Crane is a Working Capital Fund
NSWC Crane is a Navy Working Capital Fund (NWCF), a revolving fund that finances Department of the Navy (DoN) activities providing products and services on a reimbursable basis, based on a customer-provider relationship between operating units and NWCF support organizations. Unlike for-profit commercial businesses, NWCF activities strive to break even over the budget cycle. The NWCF provides stabilized pricing to customers and acts as a shock-absorber to fluctuations in market prices. These fluctuations are recovered from customers in future years via rate changes. The NWCF is key to supporting the DoN's presence and posture through capability, capacity and readiness.
3. NSWC Crane is Approved to Hire 170 Above Attrition in FY18
NSWC Crane has been approved for hiring above attrition for each of the last four FYs, including 170 above attrition (353 total) for FY18. Here are NSWC Crane's hiring numbers for the last four FYs:

Electronics Engineers -Research, develop, test, evaluate, operate, maintain, decommission, and/or direct the fabrication, manufacture, and installation of electronic devices. Electronics engineers work on systems and devices including:
Simplified Acquisition Specialists - Provide product/service acquisition analysis using Simplified Acquisition Procedures for supplies, services, and/or research and development. Simple Acquisition Specialists also determine an appropriate and legally compliant acquisition vehicle which conforms to Federal Regulation requirements, gather and compile information for acquisition planning, and prepare management reports to assist in decision making.
Contract Specialists - Work in developing contract strategy considering the availability of funds, extent of competition, urgency, production lead time, delivery requirements, need for Government furnished material/property, option requirements, and other factors. This job series also reviews specifications and work packages to assure clarity, adequacy and completeness, and advises planning when deficiencies are noted.
Computer Scientists - Develop new and improved concepts, principles, and techniques that will advance the body of knowledge of computer science, and adapt and apply advanced computer science methods and techniques to solve complex computer processing requirements.
Mechanical Engineers - Perform technical design and development project work, program management work for a significant technological field or particular emphasis area, and engineering advisory services. Systems and products would include:
