Accident Claims Life Of Bedford Woman, Four Others Injured

(MITCHELL) - A two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon on State Road 37 left a Bedford woman dead and four others injured.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 78-year-old Beverly Rayhill of Bedford, who was trapped in her vehicle following the accident, died from internal head injuries at the scene.

Police say Rayhill was traveling east on Stevens Lane in a 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass when she entered the southbound lanes of State Road 37 and collided with a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 28-year-old Jeni Beasley of Mitchell.

Police say Beasley applied her brakes but was unable to stop before striking Rayhill's car on the driver's side.

A passenger in Rayhill's car, 76-year-old Joe Rayhill, suffered bruising to his entire body incapacitating him.

Beasley suffered bruising to her body and was also incapacitated and was taken from the scene by ambulance. Her two children, 2-year-old Emma Beasley, suffered a concussion, bruises to her head and broken eye socket, 7-year-old Jolene Hunter, suffered bruising to her chest. Both required immediate medical attention.

All of those involved in the accident were restrained with seat belts or child safety seats. The airbag deployed in Beasley's vehicle.

The accident closed State Road 37 for about an hour and a half while police investigated the accident and removed the wreckage.
