(BEDFORD) - A Bedford Police Department vehicle was damaged in a two-vehicle accident at Fifth Street and Bellback Road on Wednesday.
According to a Bedford Police report, Officer Jeremy Bridges was responding to a call and traveling westbound on Fifth Street with his lights and sirens on and was approaching Bellback Road when 68-year-old Douglas Chastain of Bedford failed to yield the right of way to his police vehicle.
The departments 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe collided with Chastain's 2012 Kia Rio as he pulled from Bell Back Road into the path of the police vehicle.
The Kia Rio hit the front of the police vehicle and then spun hitting the rear of the police vehicle and then ran off the roadway. After the collision, the police vehicle continued traveling west, and came to a stop south of Fifth Street.
Officer Bridges says he attempted to avoid the collision, but was unable to miss the vehicle.
Chastain told police he heard the sirens, but didn't see the approaching police vehicles.
Neither Officer Bridges or Chastain were injured.
