(BLOOMINGTON) - IU Health President and CEO Dennis Murphy has announced that Brian Shockney, interim president and chief operating officer for the South Central Region (SCR), has been promoted to the position of president.
His announcement comes with strong support of the region's Board of Directors, the providers of IU Health Southern Indiana Physicians and his local colleagues and peers throughout the health system. Shockney joined the SCR leadership team as COO in 2016, and began serving as interim president for the region earlier this year.
Prior to joining IU Health in 2010 as COO of IU Health Arnett, Shockney was president and CEO of Logansport Memorial Hospital in Logansport, Ind.
"As we conducted a search for a new regional president, it became evident that Brian had gained the overwhelming confidence and support of his local leadership, physicians and board, all of whom were actively involved in the search process," said CEO Dennis Murphy. "In addition to overseeing the building of the new hospital, Brian will be responsible for ensuring the region meets its objectives of providing access to high-quality healthcare, and furthering education, research and participation in community health programs.
"We are extremely pleased to have such a capable and committed leader in place to serve the needs of the residents who make up the 11-counties in the South Central Region," Murphy added.
IU Health South Central Region Board President Dan Peterson shared similar sentiments about Shockney's announcement. "In his role as Chief Operating Officer and Interim President of the South Central Region, Brian has demonstrated a clear strategic vision, a precise focus on doing what's best for patients and a commitment to the thousands of IU Health employees in our region. Our regional board is grateful for his leadership and very enthusiastic about the future of IU Health's delivery of health care under Brian's leadership."
Shockney responded to his appointment with appreciation and a vision. "As we look ahead I am grateful for the investment IU Health is making in our community with the new Regional Academic Health Center as well as the confidence they have demonstrated in the South Central Region's local leadership team.
"Our committed Regional Board of Directors, medical providers, administrative leaders and care givers are all aligned to provide the very best care to our patients - consistently and with compassion.
On a personal note, he adds: "I am appreciative of the warm community welcome I have received during the past 18 months and look forward to working more closely with our community partners and team members."
Shockney holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Health Administration from Indiana University and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He serves on the Board of the Bloomington Economic Development Corporation and is a committee member for Monroe County Council on Substance Abuse and Diversion.
He has been recognized with the American Hospital Association Rural Hospital Leadership Award, IU Health Values in Leadership Award, SPEA Community Service Award and Alumni Hall of Fame - Indiana University - Kokomo. He also has been active with the American Heart Association, United Way and Boy Scouts of America. He lives in Martinsville with his wife Angie. They have three grown children.
