(PAOLI) - A new contract for Paoli’s interim superintendent gives him more money while requiring him to work fewer days.
The school board voted unanimously Monday to approve a year-long contract with Gerald Jackson. He will be paid around $110,000 for working 200 days between the end of this month to the end of July of 2019.
Under the new contract, Jackson will be required to work four days a week at a rate of $550 a day, compared to his previous contract in which he worked five days a week for $440 a day.
Jackson's new contract is effective immediately but the district will terminate it when it chooses a new permanent superintendent. The school board is now advertising the position.
Jon Bennett was named new superintendent of Paoli Community Schools last month, but soon resigned before every taking the position. Jackson agreed to serve as interim superintendent until a new superintendent is hired.
Gerald was named interim superintendent after former superintendent Casey Brewster resigned.
Brewster was suspended for failure to manage the financial affairs of the school corporation in a prudent, reasonable or professional manner, placing the corporation in financial distress and for failure to make satisfactory/acceptable progress in academic affairs as reflected in corporation standardized tests scores, Indiana Department of Education regulatory actions and the absence of a suitable academic plan. Brewster resigned before the school board could vote on whether to terminate his contract.
