Stellar Downtown Streetscape Project Updates

(BEDFORD) - Construction is underway to update the streetscape in downtown Bedford.
Below is a list of activities that City officials anticipate happening over the next week.
Last week's progress:
- Continued placing subgrade treatment and pouring sidewalk on the west half of 16th Street from I Street to J Street.
- Finish pouring curb ramp at the SE corner of 16th Street and J Street.
- Masonic Temple Basement: Basement Wall is complete, Waterproofing has been completed, Back filling complete to current construction operation limits.
- Poured curb and gutter at the SE corner of 16th Street and I Street.
What to expect June 4th thru June 9th:
- Finish pouring sidewalk and steps on the west half of 16th Street from I Street to J Street.
- Begin installing brick pavers on the west half of 16th Street from I Street to J Street.
- Begin placing subgrade treatment and pouring sidewalk on the east half of 15th Street from I Street to J Street.
- Contractor will pour the new sidewalk starting next to the building. Once this portion of the sidewalk is built, they will then move operations to pouring the new curb along the roadway.
- Masonic Temple Basement: Begin cutting down 2 feet of the existing basement walls next to the road in order to facilitate sidewalk and edge treatments construction.
NOTE: Weather could affect some work activities and could cause delays.
Customer Access:
- On the southside of 16th Street from J Street to I Street: From the Purdue Extension Office to J Street, access can be obtained at the SE corner of J Street and 16th Street via the temporary walkway. (Temporarily the contractor has installed access to for the Purdue Extension Office directly in front of the business while they are pouring sidewalk on the east west half of the block.) From the Courthouse Annex to I Street, the sidewalk is open.
- On the northside of 15th Street from J Street to I Street: Access to businesses on the west half of the block from J Street to the Masonic Temple can be obtained via the existing sidewalk. Access to the Masonic Temple and business within will have access via a temporary pedestrian bridge on the west corner of the building. Access to businesses on the east half of the block from I Street to the Christmas Store can be obtained via a temporary walk patch accessed from I Street.
- Curb Ramp at the SE corner of 16th Street and I Street: Sidewalk at said location is closed. Pedestrian access is maintained on the SW corner of 16th Street and I Street.
Parking/Traffic:
- There will be no parking on the west half of 16th Street during construction of the west half of the block.
- There will be no parking on the east half of 15th Street during construction of the east half of the block.
- Eastbound US 50 (16th Street) and Westbound US 50 (15th Street) - The right lane will be closed from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. - MONDAY thru SATURDAY during construction.
- For 16th Street the lane closure configuration will start immediately west of J Street and continue through to the middle of the block between I Street and J Street.
- For 15th Street the lane closure configuration will start immediately east of I Street and continue through to the middle of the block between I Street and J Street.
NOTE: (HANDRAIL STATUS)
Submittals have been completed by the manufacturer. The revised quote for the decorative railing is being reviewed
STELLAR LIMESTONE TRAIL CONNECTOR PROJECT
Construction is underway on the Limestone Connector, connecting the Milwaukee Trail at 10th Street to the Downtown Streetscape and Courthouse Square via Lincoln Avenue/L Street, 14th Street and 17th Street. Below is a list of activities that we anticipate happening over the next week. A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the Limestone Trail construction.
NOTE: Work hours are 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday - Saturday
Last week's progress:
- Continue removal of sidewalk and begin placing subgrade for new trail on Lincoln Avenue from 12th Street to 14th Street.
- Install new storm sewer on Lincoln Avenue from 14th Street to 12th Street and tied in property drains.
- Began pouring new sidewalk/Trail from 10th Street towards 12th Street.
- Poured leveling footer for Limestone Wall reconstruction.
What to expect the week of June 4th thru June 9th:
- Continue removal of sidewalk and begin placing subgrade for new trail on Lincoln Avenue from 12th Street to 14th Street.
- Continue installing new storm sewer on Lincoln Avenue from 12th Street to 14th Street.
- Continue pouring new sidewalk/Trail and drive approaches on Lincoln Avenue from 10th Street towards 12th Street.
- Pouring concrete curb from 10th Street to 13th Street on Lincoln Ave.
- Installing water main bypass to facilitate placement of the new storm sewer.
NOTE: Weather could affect and delay construction activities.
Customer Access:
- The sidewalk on the south side of 14th Street is closed. The contractor has maintained access to thru foot traffic along the west side of K Street and the north side of 14th Street.
- The sidewalk on the north side of 17th Street is closed from L Street to K Street. The contractor has maintained access to thru foot traffic along the south side of 17th Street.
- Both drives of the Methodist Church on 14th Street will be open by 14 April 2018 (Sat).
- NAPA store on 17th Street access will be maintained. Drive access off of 17th Street is currently open. If the drive to
- NAPA off of 17th Street is closed for construction, access can be obtain via the alley way to the north or east side of the store.
- The sidewalk on the west side of Lincoln Avenue from 10th Street to 12th Street will be closed. Pedestrian access will be maintained via the sidewalk on the east side of Lincoln Avenue from 10th Street to 12th Street.
Parking/Traffic:
- The southbound lane of L Street from 10th Street to 12th Street will be restricted down to 10ft lanes during construction.
Thru traffic will be maintained.
- A Lane Shift is in place on L Street at 14th Street to facilitate ramp construction.
* NOTE: As a part of the Round-a-bout project on Lincoln Avenue at John Williams Boulevard: Lincoln Avenue will have local access only from 10th Street to 14th Street. Lincoln Avenue will remain closed north of 9th Street for the construction of the Lincoln Avenue/John Williams Boulevard Roundabout. The contractor plans to utilize this closure to help facilitate construction of the Limestone Connector Trail within the closure area. Access to properties/businesses will be maintained.
STELLAR FAÇADE RENOVATION PROJECT
Construction is underway for the Stellar Community Facades Renovation Project. Below is a list of activities we anticipate happening next week. A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the Façades Renovation construction project.
Last Week's Progress- May 25th to May 31st:
- Painted at 1012 16 th Street
- Continued with window frames at 1011 15 th Street, lower level
What to expect the week of June 1st thru June 7th
- Install glass at 1011 15 th Street and work on vestibule
- Clean stone at 1501 J Street
- Clean stone at 1536 I Street
- Start painting on 1536 I Street
- Work on storefront at 1016 16th Street
JOHN WILLIAMS BOULEVARD/LINCOLN AVENUE ROUNDABOUT PROJECT
Construction is underway for the John Williams Boulevard/Lincoln Avenue Roundabout. Below is a list of activities that we anticipate happening over the next week. A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the construction project.

- Started slipping curb and gutter
