(LOOGOOTEE) - On Monday around 11:30 a.m. an off-duty Martin County Sheriff’s Sgt. Keith Keller received a call from Kerry Kinger a firefighter with the Jasper Fire Department reporting a suspicious vehicle was parked on the north side of US 231 at the bridge just inside Martin County.
Kinder reported what he believed to be a human surfacing from the water.
Sgt. Kelly immediately responded and found the tan Mazda
Conservation Officer Kyle Hembree overheard Sergeant Keller's traffic with Martin County Dispatch, and immediately retrieved his department issued boat. Sergeant Keller requested the assistance of the Haysville Community Volunteer Fire Department and the Dubois County Sheriff's Department.
At approximately 12:52 p.m., ICO Hembree located a male in the river stuck in a log jam with his head above the water approximately five miles downstream from the US 231 bridge in Haysville. ICO Hembree was able to rescue the male, who was transported to Portersville Boat Ramp where he was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
The male admitted to jumping from the bridge in an attempt to commit suicide. The male's name is not being released at this time.
