Bedford Public Library Offering BrainSTEM Camp

Last updated on Thursday, July 5, 2018

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Public Library is promoting STEM learning in as many ways as it possibly can, including providing hands-on programs on coding, robots, 3-D printing, drones, virtual reality and other areas of study.

In July, the library is providing two half-day adventures called BrainSTEM Camp. BrainSTEM Camp provides fun learning activities that relate to science, technology, engineering and math. Two camps are offered, with one camp on July 25 for students in third-grade through fifth-grade and the other on July 26 for students in sixth-grade through eighth-grade.

Camp activities in the past have included an egg drop from the top of the library, designing and cooking in a solar oven, experimenting with 3-D modeling and printing, creating a model car that moved by chemical reaction and constructing hydraulic-powered cranes. This year, the camp for younger students involves, among other things, a survival game using tiny robots. The older students will learn about circuitry while designing and building their own light-up constellation for their wall at home.

For each half-day camp session, the library provides a mid-morning snack and lunch. Registration is required, but the camps are offered at no charge. This is the third year for the popular camps that introduce students to STEM in engaging ways.
