(BLOOMINGTON) - Monroe County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Critical Incident Response Team responded to a home in southeastern Monroe County after a report of a gunshot.
The Herald Times reports, deputies learned a man had made suicidal comments on social media.
As two deputies started up the stairs to look for the man, they heard a single shot from the second floor, according Sgt. Steve Hale.
The deputies retreated and requested assistance from Bloomington Police Department CIRT members.
A team of six took over for the deputies, entering the home about noon.
Officers used the Lenco BearCat to provide safe cover for the team's negotiators, who used the vehicle's intercom system to try and make contact with the man, Hale said.
By 1:30 p.m., officials determined the man had died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
