(KENTUCKY) - The Kentucky Department of Labor fined Ford Motor Company $37,800 for a Seymour worker’s death last year.
The agency issued seven serious violations, the most severe penalty, against The Ford Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville that led to the death of 41-year-old Ivan M. Bridgewater III on Dec. 9, 2017.
The Jefferson County Coroner's office says Bridgewater died from blunt force trauma.
Emergency crews rushed to the plant around 1 a.m.
Bridgewater, who was an electrician at the plant, was attempting to repair a loading dock lock.
The Kentucky Department of Labor investigators say a semitrailer crushed Bridgewater when it backed into him and pinned him against the dock. They found the area was not properly lit.
Bridgewater left behind his wife, Megan, and son, Ivan IV.
Ford's Manufacturing and Labor Communications Manager Kelli Felker released the following statement after Bridgewater's death on behalf of the company:
"We are deeply saddened by the death of an employee early this morning at Kentucky Truck Plant. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and co-workers during this difficult time.
We are cooperating with the investigation into the cause of death."
