(LAWRENCE COUNTY) - Tristin Day was crowned as the 2018 Lawrence County Queen last Friday night.
"This was my first one!... I put in a lot of hard work that's for sure," said Tristin Day, 2018 Lawrence County Fair Queen when asked if she had competed in Queen Contests before now.
Tristin is 18 and just graduated from BNL.
First Runner Up in the Lawrence County Pageant, Kara Jones said, "This is my second year doing it... Last year I didn't get anything and then this year I got First Runner Up and Miss Congeniality. I also graduated from BNL in 2016 and I've shown in 4-H my whole life."
Kara showed dairy cows for more than 10 years in 4-H and now she is currently attending Ivy Tech for nursing.
Kayla Carson, Second Runner Up, said this was not her first pageant, "But this was my first county pageant, I just graduated from Ivy Tech with my Associates [Degree] and I'm about to be a Boilermaker in August."
Kara participated in photography and soil judging during her time in 4-H.
All three girls said they gained confidence after competing in the pageant.
"I enjoyed the challenge, because there's so many things that you have to prepare for and for me, I am a competitive person.... I did everything I could. My mom would help me practice interview questions," said Tristin.
"I practiced my speech everywhere I went, when driving into town, when I was at work. Every opportunity and extra minute I had, I was doing something to help me prepare for it," she added.
Now the ladies can be found handing out prizes at the Lawrence County Fair and participating in fair events like Mud Volleyball and Pig Wrestling.
