Lawrence County Veterans Service Office Releases Figures

(BEDFORD) - Brad Bough, Lawrence County Veterans Service Officer presented the commissioners with the Fiscal Year 2017 Geographic Distribution of Expenditures Tuesday morning.

Commissioner President Rodney Fish presented the findings.

The report includes the number of veterans and the expenditures by the US Department of Veterans Affairs for the fiscal year 2017 in Lawrence County.

"I would point out these are not grants, but rather they are the earned benefits which were received by our veterans and their survivors in Lawrence County in fiscal year 2017," Bough wrote in the release.

Number of veterans served: 3,722
Total expenditures for 2017: 425,787,000 compared to $22,948,000 in 2016.

The breakdown of FY-2017 GDX of $25,787 is as follows:

Compensation and pension: $14,496,000 This is the total amount of cash directly deposited into the accounts of Lawrence County's veterans and their survivors in fiscal year 2017.
Educational and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment: A total of $1,289,000 was the amount received from the VA for this purpose.
Insurance and Indemnities: $194,000
Medical Care: A total of $9,808,000 was the amount of medical care received by Lawrence County veterans and their qualified family members.
