Limestone Heritage Festive Parade Winners

(BEDFORD) - The 2018 Limestone Heritage Festival Parade was a success despite the heat.

This year's theme was "Lawrence County - Celebrating 200 Years" in celebration of Lawrence County's Bicentennial celebration.

Mayor Shawna Girgis and Marla Jones honored Capt. James Lawrence as Grand Marshal of the 2018 Limestone Heritage Festival Parade Grand Marshal posthumously.

Capt. James Lawrence is the namesake for Lawrence County and was an American naval officer whose famous line was, "Don't give up the ship!"

Mayor Girgis also announced in celebration of Lawrence County's 200 years that June 30th will be celebrated as Capt. James Lawrence Day.

Parade entry #46, Andrew Hartman's Funtime Band with Jared Stancombe for State Representative, won the Award Of Excellence from the commercial float category.

Citiloo Power won Most Patriotic from the commercial float category. The float included Citiloo's mascot, Maria the Flamingo, dressed in her best Fourth of July attire and a self operating lawn mower demonstration on the trailer.

The Award Of Excellence for the Non-Commercial Floats went to parade entry #45, Cub Scout Pack 343 Springville. Cub Scout Pack 343 from Springville celebrated Lawrence County's 200 years with a "Happy Birthday" inflatable cake.

Parade Entry #53 was the Bedford Lions Club Float and it won Most Patriotic from the Non-Commercial Floats.

Bender Lumber won the Antique Cars category in their 1950's Buick Roadmaster.

Parade entry #22, Mike Spreen won the Tractor category with his 1975 Model John Deere 6030.

Bedford North Lawrence Marching Stars won the Musical/Band category.

The Mitchell Fire Department parade entry #30 won this year's Fire Truck category in their antique fire truck.

Life Tabernacle won both the Award of Excellence and Most Patriotic in the Church category.

Best Overall Theme went to the Bedford Lions Club and their float celebrating Lawrence County's Bicentennial.
