Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis Not Seeking Fourth Term

(BEDFORD) - Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis announced that she will not be seeking a fourth term as mayor.
Girgis has served as mayor for 11 years.
The Times Mail reported the following accomplishments Girgis has achieved during her tenure.
- The growth of more than 479 jobs at General Motors Bedford Casting Plant;
- The establishment of more than 600 jobs at EastGate that supports NSWC Crane;
- The opening of the Milwaukee Trail;
- The completion of Becky Skillman Way and Patrick Robbins Way with Indiana Department of Transportation grant funds;
- $920,000 in grants from the state of Indiana for utility improvements;
- 450 percent increase in local 21st Century Scholars -- $62 million value;
- 2013 Indiana Community of the Year;
- Indiana Stellar Community -- $19 million for projects in the downtown;
- Trails open and growing, a No. 1 priority of citizens in the comprehensive plan;
- Established the annual Bedford half-marathon, 5K and Family Fun Walk;
- Becky's Place and Men's Warming Shelter operational;
- Youth Leadership Academy -- fifth annual program completed in June 2018;
- Lincoln Avenue roundabout funded by INDOT and scheduled for completion by Aug. 1.
