(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell woman was arrested on Monday after she allegedly threw a hairbrush and it bounced off a dresser striking a 7-year-old girl in the face.
Police arrested 22-year-old Erika "Morgan" Hawkins on a charge of battery on a person younger than 14 years old.
The girl's mother went to the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department to report the incident.
She told police the girl had been at her father's home on Bartlett Drive when the incident happened.
The mother told police the child's father told her Hawkins threw a brush at the child, which hit her in the face.
Mitchell police went to the home and talked to Hawkins and the child's father.
Hawkins told police he had threw the hairbrush at a dresser when it bounced off and hit the child.
Hawkins was arrested and released after posting a $755 cash bond.
