(SPENCER) - The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to shift westbound State Road 46 traffic at Spencer to new pavement on the north side of the highway next Monday or Tuesday (July 9 or 10). This will initiate Phase III full-depth reconstruction of S.R. 46’s eastbound lane between Fairview Avenue and Main Street.
Contracted paving crews placed two lifts of hot-mix asphalt last Saturday (June 30) at the S.R. 46-U.S. 231/S.R. 67 intersection before extreme heat cancelled operations. INDOT officials hope personnel and equipment can be rescheduled prior to next weekend to lay the intermediate lift of asphalt that must be put in place before making the traffic shift and phase change.
In addition to pavement removal and full-depth reconstruction of S.R. 46's eastbound lane, Phase III calls for installation of storm sewer inlets and pipe connections, sidewalks, ADA-compliant curb ramps, drive and street approaches and decorative lighting.
Milestone is the state's contractor for this $8 million reconstruction project on S.R. 46 between Fairview Avenue and the west-side U.S. 231/S.R. 67 split.
