(BEDFORD) - Artists Candace Davis and Kay Kimmel will share the spotlight for the a new art show Still Life and Landscapes at the Wiley Art Gallery. The show opens with a public reception on Friday July 27 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
The artists met years ago while taking oil painting classes at the Brick Shop in Springville under the direction of Wilma Swango. Both Candace and Kay work in several mediums including oils, acrylic, pastels and watercolor. Kay has also done work in pen and ink, while Candace began her interest in art with graphite and colored pencil, taking classes from local artist Barry Powell.
Kay has been painting for about twenty years and Candace for fifteen years. After becoming friends through their interest in art, the two discovered they had more in common than painting. Both graduated from Oolitic High School and they both took up painting to relieve stress after the death of a sibling.
Because these artists enjoy learning new and different techniques, they continue taking classes and workshops to develop their talents.
The show Still life and Landscapes will continue through August 18. The public is invited to attend the reception on July 27 or stop by anytime during gallery hours, Thursdays and Fridays 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The gallery is located at 1402 J Street in Bedford, across from the Milwaukee Depot.
