(BLOOMINGTON) - Three Northern Monroe Fire Territory firefighters have received Public Safety Service Certificates of Merit from the Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital Ambulance Service.
Firefighter Sara True, Sgt. Ryan Fipps and Capt. Jeff Bailey received the awards for finding an injured woman who fell off a horse in a wooded area on April 7.
The Herald Times reports, the injured woman's exact whereabouts were not known and local firefighters from several department and ambulances were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters and medics spent several hours trying to find the woman.
The firefighters found the woman three miles into the woods, near Tulip Tree Trail off Sewell Road, and moved her out of the woods to an ambulance.
Emergency responders from Perry-Clear Creek Fire District, Indiana University Health Ambulance Service, Indiana Conservation Office, Brown County Volunteer Fire Department and Columbus Regional Health Ambulance also assisted with the search for the woman.
