(DALE) - Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of Highway 68 and U.S. 231 early Thursday morning.
According to troopers, 59-year-old Kathryn Schitter of Newburg was traveling east on State Road 68/62 in a 2002 Toyota Highlander at about 3 a.m. when she collided with a southbound 2002 Peterbilt Semi driven by 53-year-old James W. Roberts, of Salem.
Schitter was pronounced dead at the scene. Roberts was not injured.
The investigation is being conducted by an accident reconstructionist, Trooper Ross Johnson.
The Carter Fire District Volunteer Fire Department, Spencer County Emergency Medical Services, a Department of Natural Resources conservation officer, the Spencer County Sheriff's Department and wreckers from Ruxer Ford and JAWS Towing assisted.
The accident closed southbound U.S. 231 near Dale for about two hours while the scene was cleared.
