(BEDFORD) - Due to a recent letter received by Bedford City Utilities regarding a Facebook post about the safety of the city’s drinking water, Utilities Director Misty Adams released the following:
The City of Bedford Drinking Water Treatment plant produces safe public tap water as required by the Environmental Protection Agency Safe Drinking Water Act and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. The treatment plants uses two forms of disinfection to ensure the safety of the drinking water. Disinfectants used are sodium hypochlorite (chlorine) and ultraviolet light.
Bedford City Utilities is required, among many other tests, to collect four Total Coliform/Water bacteriological samples per week out in the distribution system for Total Coliform including E. Coli.
Hepatitis A quick facts can be found on the Indiana Department of Health website at www.in.gov/ISHD. Bedford City Utilities had not had a sample test with a present or positive result for total coliform testing which includes E. Coli. Sample results can be found on the State of Indiana Department of Environmental Managements website at www.IN.gov/IDEM or to speak to someone by phone call (800) 451-6027 option 3.
