(COLUMBUS) - A home on Northbrook Drive in Columbus was damaged Sunday afternoon when a fire sparked in a bedroom.
A smoke alarm alerted the 83-year-old homeowner, who had been napping, to the fire.
Heavy flames were coming from her grandson's bedroom.
She fled the home and when her grandson arrived he attempted to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose.
The grandson suffered a minor burn to his arm.
Columbus Fire Department Capt. Mike Wilson, says firefighters arrived at 3:30 p.m.

Capt. Wilson says there was heavy damage to the bedroom. The fire had burned through the floor. There was also damage to the attic area and smoke damage throughout the home. The damages were estimated around $84,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
