(DUBOIS CO.) - Students in Southwest Dubois County School Corporation were delayed going home as the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department and Huntingburg Police Department tracked down a man wanted on a warrant for child molestation.
Dubois County Free Press reports, officers were called to 502 N. Geiger Street in Huntingburg on a report of illegal dumping and found 40-year-old Josh Fuller, of Valparaiso, who was wanted on a warrant on a Level 4 felony child molestation out of Porter County. When the officers attempted to detain Fuller, he fled southwest from the back of the residence.
Officers from different agencies pursued him on foot.
The incident occurred as school was letting out for the day so the Huntingburg Police Department notified the school corporation and advised them to delay buses while they searched for Fuller.
At about 3:40 p.m., about 20 minutes after they were asked to hold the buses, the school was able to release 11 buses on the routes that were not impacted by the search being conducted by law enforcement.
The five bus routes directly impacted by the incident were delayed, parents were notified of the situation and told they could pick up the children at the school.
Police searched for Fuller and he was able to evade them for a short time before he was located hiding in a 55-gallon drum behind a property at 211 E. Fourth Street.
Police said Fuller resisted officers' commands and the Huntingburg K-9 was deployed to assist with the apprehension.
Fuller was then removed from the barrel and arrested. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries caused by the K-9 and then booked into the Dubois County Security Center on the warrant and new charges of resisting arrest.
Assisting at the scene were Huntingburg Police Department, Dubois County Sheriff's Department, Jasper Police Department, Huntingburg First Responders and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services.
