(BLOOMINGTON) - Officials say 24-year-old Daniel Boyer was shot 4 times after pointing a loaded semi-automatic handgun at Monroe County Deputies Tuesday morning.
According to Coroner Joani Shields, Boyer suffered two gunshot wounds to his left thigh, one to his right index finger and a superficial wound to the right side of his lower back. Coroner Shields refused to release the cause of death saying it was an ongoing investigation.
Boyer died at 10:01 a.m. after being taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Boyer was shot after Deputies Don Teague and Deandre Moxley went to the home in the 5900 block of Tower Road around 9:15 a.m. The mobile home is along a wooded area along a gravel dead-end road that runs north of Tower Road, off Ison Road.
Officers went to the home to arrest 33-year-old Tiffany Flynn on a warrant for a violation of home detention. Police also believed Boyer might be at the home.He was wanted on warrants for dealing and possession of meth.
The two deputis approached the rear of the mobile home from a wooded area while another deputy approached from the front.
Boyer exited the home out the back door.
"The male subject who they had been looking for came out the back door with a handgun, pointed it at the deputies and said a comment to the effect of 'f--- this,'" Swain said.
Teague and Moxley fired their 9 mm Glocks striking Boyer four times.
Both deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending an internal investigation. Sheriff Swain says both officers were wearing body cameras and that video is being reviewed.
Following the shooting Indiana State Police and the city's Critical Response Unit were summoned to the scene to secure the home. The team used flash grenades to clear the mobile home.
Police arrested 31-year-old Heather Bright, who lives in the home on charges of possession of meth. She is being held in the Monroe County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
Sheriff Swain says a 16-year-old boy, was also in the home. He is a ward of the state and had escaped from an Indianapolis facility where he was being held on charges of robbery and auto theft.
While at the department the teen who appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol suffered a medical incident and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
