(SALEM) - A Salem man was arrested Sunday afternoon after he allegedly assaulted a woman and pointed a loaded gun at her.
Washington County Sheriff Deputies responded to a home on West Arrow Road just after 3 p.m. Sunday after a 56-year-old Kevin Worley reported a woman had left his home taking items that belonged to him. A few minutes later the woman called police reporting that she was at a home on Henderson Park Road and Worley had attacked her.
Worley told deputies that the woman had stolen seven knives from his knife collection and the two got into a verbal argument. He told the woman he wanted the knives back and for her to get out of his house. Worley says the woman refused to leave and that she was going to call 911.
Deputies told Worley the woman had called police claiming Worley had attacked her. He denied the allegations.
Deputies then went to speak to the woman, who claimed Worley attacked her grabbing her by the throat after she told Worley she wanted to leave. She says Worley rushed at her knocking her down onto a couch and then grabbed her by the neck choking her.
Deputies say the woman suffered several red marks and scratches to the front and sides of her neck.
When the woman went to leave, Worley allegedly pointed a handgun at her and threatened to shoot her. The woman was able to get out of the house, but not before Worley allegedly threw a bag at her hitting her in the back. The woman got into her truck and left.
The woman denied knowing anything about a knife collection.
The woman says Worley was upset because he was behind in child support and was ordered by the court to sell his guns, guitars and knife collection to pay the debt. She told police Worley had been taking the items to a friend's house to hide them and threatened to "bust the woman in the mouth" if she told anyone.
Deputies returned to Worley's home and arrested him on charges of battery, intimidation and pointing a loaded firearm at another person. Deputies found the handgun next to a recliner, which was taken into evidence.
While being booked into the Washington County Detention Center, Worley admitted to getting verbally abusive with the woman, threatening to kill her and throwing her belongings out his front door.
