(BEDFORD) - Construction is underway to update the streetscape in downtown Bedford.
Below is a list of activities that we anticipate happening over the next week.
A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the streetscape construction.
NOTE: Work hours are Monday thru Friday 6:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Last week's progress:
15th Street (West Half):
* Continued backfilling behind edge treatment walls and building stone subgrade.
* Continued pouring concrete sidewalk next to buildings starting at the Masonic Temple and working towards J Street
16th Street (East Half):
* Edge Treatment walls completed, Limestone Caps were installed.
* Sidewalk pouring operations continued (95% complete).
* Poured the majority of the curb ramp at the southwest corner of 16th Street and I Street.
16th Street (West Half) and 15th Street (East Half):
* Duke Energy has been notified that they can begin installing new light pole foundation. Installation date is to be determined pending Duke Energy schedule.
* Temporary Handrail in place until new handrail is on site and installed.
* Limestone Caps are installed.
15th Street and J Street (Northeast corner of intersection):
* Work will resume once sidewalks are poured on 15th Street.
What to expect August 27th thru August 31st:
15th Street (West Half):
* Continue pouring sidewalk, ramps and steps.
* 15th Street (East Half):
* Install Limestone Caps on Edge Treatment walls.
• 16th Street (East Half):
* Finish pouring curb ramp at the southwest corner of 16th Street and I Street.
* Finish installing Limestone Caps on the Edge Treatment walls.
NOTE: Weather could affect some work activities and could cause delays.
Customer Access:
On the southside of 16th Street from J Street to I Street:
* Pedestrian access via the ramp at 16th Street and J Street has been restored.
* Some stairs remain closed for public safety, due to a lack of handrail.
* Access to all business can be obtained via the new sidewalk in front of the Courthouse Annex or via 16th Street and J Street.
On the northside of 15th Street from J Street to I Street:
* Access to businesses on the east half of the block from I Street to the Masonic Temple can be obtained via new concrete sidewalk. Access is obtained off of I Street.
* Businesses west of the Masonic Temple can be accessed via individual walkways in front of the business.
Parking/Traffic:
There will be no parking on the east half of 16th Street during construction of the east half of the block.
There will be no parking on the west half of 15th Street during construction of the west half of the block.
Eastbound US 50 (16th Street) and Westbound US 50 (15th Street) - The right lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Monday thru Saturday during construction.
For 16th Street the lane closure configuration will start immediately west of J Street and continue through to the middle of the block between I Street and J Street.
For 15th Street the lane closure configuration will start immediately east of I Street and continue through to the middle of the block between I Street and J Street.
Handrail status
All change orders and quotes have been approved. Contractor has begun measuring for new decorative handrail installation. There is a 10 week lead time for rail manufacturing.
Construction is underway on the Limestone Connector, connecting the Milwaukee Trail at 10 th Street to the Downtown
Streetscape & Courthouse Square via Lincoln Avenue/L Street, 1 th Street and 17th Street. Below is a list of activities anticipate happening over the next week. A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the Limestone Trail construction.
NOTE: Work hours are 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday - Saturday
Last week's progress:
Finished pouring sidewalk/Trail and drive approaches on Lincoln Avenue from 13th Street towards 14th Street.
Began pouring curb and sidewalk/Trail on 17th Street from J Street towards K Street.
Began installing sod and planter beds on Lincoln Avenue and L Street from 10th Street to 13th Street.
NOTE: So that was placed on 26 July 2018 can now be mowed. The 30 day maintenance period has expired.
Finished removals along L Street from 14th Street to 15th Street.
Began removals on L Street from 15th Street to 16th Street.
Began Storm Sewer installation on L Street from 16th Street towards 15th Street.
Ordered Limestone Walkway Slabs for new limestone sidewalk on L Street between 14th Street and 15th Street.
What to expect the week of August 27th thru September 1st:
Finish removals on L Street from 15th Street to 16th Street.
Pour concrete base for Limestone Walkway on L Street between 14th Street and 15th Street.
Finish Storm Sewer installation on L Street from 16th Street towards 15th Street.
Continue pouring sidewalk, curb and rives on 17th Street from J Street towards K Street.
NOTE: Weather could affect and delay construction activities.
Customer Access:
The new sidewalk on the south side of 14th Street is open to pedestrians.
The sidewalk on the northside of 17th Street is closed from J Street to K Street. The contractor has maintained access to thru foot traffic along the south side of 17th Street.
The sidewalk on the west side of Lincoln Avenue from 10th Street to 14th Street is closed. Pedestrian access will be maintained via the sidewalk on the east side of Lincoln Avenue from 10th Street to 14th Street.
Parking/Traffic:
Lincoln Avenue and L Street is open to northbound and southbound traffic from the Round-a-bout to 14 th Street.
L Street from 14th Street to 16th Street will be one way north only for approx 45 days beginning 30 July 2018 (Monday).
17th Street from J Street to K Street: The westbound lane is closed. One way eastbound traffic only is open.
Limestone Walkway just south of 14 th Street on L Street
Limestone slabs have been ordered. Installation expected to begin on September 10, 2018.
Construction is underway for the Stellar Community Facades Renovation Project.
Below is a list of activities anticipated to happen next week. A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the Façades Renovation construction project.
Last Week's Progress- August 17th thru August 23rd:
Finished grinding and completed tuck-pointing at 1509 J Street
Washed limestone once, and will wash again at 1509 J Street
Rebuilt Entry and installed window/door frames/doors at 1009 15 th Street
Installed door at 1011 15th Street inside
1. Installed trim and caulking
Caulked at 1016 16th Street
EIFS insulation finished at 1537 J Street
Started EIFS at 1011 15th Street
Finished ramp area at 1509 J Street
1. Discussion about the owner wanting ceramic tile on ramp
Worked on both Entries at 1509 J Street and hung drywall
Built frames for windows with 2/3 complete and 2 of the 3 door frames set at 1509 J Street
What to expect the week of August 24th thru August 30th
Finish EIFS at 1011 15th Street, weather permitting
Hang Durock at 1009 15th Street
Install windows and doors at 1537 J Street
Finish limestone at 1509 J Street
Work on entry at 1611 J Street
Start turret work at 1545 J Street
