Six fire apparatuses and 27 firefighters responded to the emergency, bringing the fire under control by 8:40 pm.
There were no injuries during the incident.
The homeowner told investigators that a cooking fire rapidly spread from the stove through the residence. The investigation team discovered burn patterns confirming the cause and origin of the fire.
Members of the Monroe County Fire Investigation Task Force investigated the incident and determined the fire was accidental and the result of an unattended cooking/grease fire.
During the incident, the initial hydrant determined for water supply was discovered inoperable.
Southern Monroe Water Authority investigated the issue at the Ketcham and Popcorn water tower location and determined the cause of the hydrant malfunction was vandalism.
Their inspection revealed trash inside of the hydrant barrel preventing it from being turned on. Firefighters have restored the hydrant to working order.
