(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested after allegedly holding a woman captive for several days inside a residence in the 1710 block of South High Street.
Police arrested 21-year-old Michael Koh on charges of strangulation, domestic battery, and criminal recklessness. He is being held in the Monroe County Jail on a $5,500 bond.
Officers were alerted to the incident after a female friend of the woman called police requesting a welfare check on her safety.
When police arrived Friday around 9:30 a.m., the woman had escaped. She told police her boyfriend had held her against her will, fired a gun inside the home and hit her with a long gun during a physical confrontation.
Law enforcement blocked off traffic at the intersection of South Walnut Street and Miller Drive, contacted local schools in the area about the threat and summoned the Critical Incident Response Team. A negotiator then contacted Koh by phone.
For much of Friday morning and into the afternoon negotiators attempted to persuade Koh to surrender.
When officers searched the home around 2 p.m. they discovered Koh had fled the scene. He was located later and arrested.
