(BLOOMINGTON) - The Monroe County Public Library and the Indian Creek Community Association will host a community conversation on a potential new Southwest Monroe County Public Library Branch on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at 6 p.m. at the Indian Creek Lions Club in Kirksville. All members of the community are invited to partake in the conversation.
"The Southwest portion of the county is the largest growing area in terms of residential growth and population. I-69 and accompanying changes have created easier access to the area, and new businesses continue to attract more residents," said Marilyn Wood, Monroe County Public Library director. "This developing portion of the county is an underserved area for library services. It is also one of the few available and viable land areas with the potential to build a new branch on."
In March, the library went through a request for proposal process, in which 11 local and regional architectural firms were invited to submit proposals for a branch feasibility study. Six proposals were received and the Library Board of Trustees approved hiring Matheu Architects, PC. This past month, the library, Matheu Architects, PC and a number of community leaders and stakeholders informed the general location of this potential third library facility.
More community conversations will be scheduled in the near future. In addition to attending the meetings, all Monroe County residents may provide input through a survey, via email or by phone at 812-349-3058. The feasibility study will be complete on Dec.1, 2018. A tentative timeline suggests a new branch could be in operation by 2021 or 2022.
