(MITCHELL) - A Salem man was injured Sunday afternoon after he crashed his vehicle on Lawrenceport Road when he swerved to miss a deer.
According to a Lawrence County Police report, 29-year-old Levi Fletcher was traveling west on Lawrenceport Road, west of Earl Road, when he claims a deer ran into the roadway. Fletcher told police he swerved his 2002 Kia Rio, overcorrected and drove off the north side of the roadway.
The vehicle collided with an embankment and then rolled, spinning on its top before stopping.
Police did note that the roadway was wet from recent heavy rains.
Fletcher was out of the vehicle when rescue crews arrived. He told police he was not wearing his seat belt when the accident happened.
Fletcher complained of arm and shoulder pain. He was transported by ambulance to Monroe County Hospital for treatment.
Assisting at the scene were an AMR ambulance crew, Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department and Bedford Fire Department extrication unit, Knowles Wrecker Service.
