(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell man was transported to IU Bloomington Hospital after he locked himself in a house in the 170 block of Rabbitsville Road Friday afternoon.
According to the Lawrence County Police log, officers were alerted by a female at 4:49 p.m. saying her husband was going to kill himself and had locked himself in a bedroom of the home.
The woman told police her husband was suicidal and suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and was armed.
Lawrence County Police, Mitchell Police, and Indiana State Police responded to the scene. They blocked traffic in the area until the situation was resolved.
The woman told police the male had sent text messages to his children telling them he loved them and goodbye.
The woman was asked to leave the home after hearing a gunshot.
The Emergency Response Team was activated and arrived at the scene.
A Mitchell Police officer was able to contact the male via telephone at 5:08 p.m. He disconnected the call at 5:13 p.m.
At 5:23 p.m. the officer was able to re-establish contact with the male.
At 5:52 p.m. the male came to the front door and surrendered. He was transported to IU Bloomington Health Hospital for a medical evaluation.
