(HUNTINGBURG) - A Huntingburg man is behind bars after he attacked a Huntingburg Police Officer Monday.
The incident began when Officer Tim Roos conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of 19th Street and Medical Arts Drive. During the stop, Roos recognized 22-year-old Austin Zehr who was in the passenger seat of the vehicle and had active warrants for his arrest.
Officer Roos ordered Zehr out of the vehicle. Zehr exited the vehicle and began beating Officer Roos with brass knuckles.
Officer Roos was able to take Zehr to the ground until additional officers arrived.
Officer Roos was transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
Zehr is being held without bond in Dubois County Security Center on warrants for theft and failure to return to lawful detention and is facing additional charges of aggravated battery, two counts of battery on a public safety officer, two counts of resisting law enforcement, one count of intimidation with a deadly weapon, possession of meth and unlawful possession of a syringe.
