(BLOOMINGTON) - A jury found 24-year-old Jordan Kelly of Crown Point not guilty of rape.
The jury deliberated for more than three hours Wednesday before rendering their verdict. Judge Marc Kellams presided over the hearing in Monroe County Circuit Court.
Kelly was accused of raping a woman behind a shed in 2014 during a weekend Halloween party in Bloomington. Kelly and the alleged victim, both college students at other universities, were visiting friends at Indiana University and met at a costume party. Both had been drinking.
The woman testified during the two-day trial that she thought Kelly was cute and they had kissed. She then said Kelly led her outside near a shed and proceeded to grope and rape her. The woman testified she told Kelly numerous times to stop, but he got on top of her covered her mouth and raped her. She says Kelly left her outside and she continued to yell for help until a friend found her and took her to a local hospital.
Indiana State Police say they did find Kelly's DNA on a sample taken from the woman's lip but found four men's DNA on a sample taken from her neck. There was not enough male DNA found on the swab of her genitalia area to be tested.
The exam photos showed the woman suffered bruises and scratches on her legs and a bite mark to her upper lip. There was also a small cut inside her vagina. A nurse testified the woman had a tampon that was pushed so far up it had to be removed with medical tools.
The woman was not in the courtroom when the verdict was read.
