(BEDFORD) - Officials say because of red tape at the state level, the Men’s Warming Center will not open until December 1.
But fundraising efforts are underway to raise $35,000 so the center can stay open from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. each day.
Those needing a place to stay can check in at 7 p.m. but must depart by 7 a.m. the next morning. While there, they receive a hot meal and can take a hot shower and wash their clothes.
Contributions can be made at Bedford Federal Savings Bank, at the First Chrisitan Church or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. All checks or donations should be directed to the Men's Warming Center.
Besides having a warm bed and a warm meal in their bellies, the men will receive assistance from Centerstone officials helping these men to get back on their feet.
Several local churches will provide meals and clothing for those visiting the center.
The center has received ample donations of clothing and bedding, but still needs donations of men's underwear sizes medium and large.
They also need volunteers. If you would like to volunteer contact Rev. Rick Eldred of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Greg Stanley or Pastor Bruce Ervin of First Christian Church call or call the warming center at (812) 675-6361 or Stanley at (812) 583-5828.
