(BLOOMINGTON) - Perry Clear Creek Fire Protection District extinguished a house fire Sunday night on South Old State Road 37.
No one was home when the fire started but arrived a short time later and called 911. Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at 6:11 p.m.

An off-duty firefighter was the first to arrive at the scene and is credited with limiting the extension of the fire by closing two open exterior doors.
The department responded with four apparatus and 14 firefighters and had the fire under control by 6:26 p.m.
A dog and cat were rescued during a search of the residence. An additional injured dog was located on the front porch.

All animals were treated by firefighters and paramedics from IU Health Emergency Medical Services.
Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Van Buren Township Fire Department.
Members of the Monroe County Fire Investigation Task Force are investigating the incident and will return this morning.
