(MONROE CO.) - The Indiana Department of Transportation met with Monroe County officials, engineering consultants, contractor representatives, and utility company personnel Monday morning at Seymour District offices to discuss a $4,953,000 Local Public Agency project that advances Fullerton Pike Corridor development at Bloomington through construction at two locations on Gordon Pike.
Milestone, the LPA project's prime contractor, plans to construct a 4-span concrete box beam bridge - measuring 225 feet in length with 46 feet of clear roadway side to side - over Clear Creek located 1.8 miles east of State Road 37. Work requiring a 210-day closure is scheduled to begin in early May. Intermediate completion date is November 30, 2019.
During 2020, Milestone's Bloomington-based crews will build a roundabout at the intersection of Gordon Pike and Rogers Street. This will require a 150-day closure. Roundabout plans call for two east-west lanes and one north-south lane. Gordon Pike approaches will accommodate two 11-foot travel lanes--one in each direction--and a 14-foot center left turn lane. Approaches at Rogers Street will be one 11-foot lane in each direction. The project design includes sidewalks, bike lanes, and a multi-use path.
Work at the roundabout site is expected to start in mid-March, 2020. It should be "substantially completed" by October 1, 2020.
Site clearing and utility relocations will take place this fall and winter.
The Federal Highway Administration funds 80 percent of the LPA project. As LPA sponsor, Monroe County pays 20 percent of construction costs. INDOT administers FHWA monies and provides oversight to assure compliance with federal standards. American Structurepoint of Indianapolis is the design firm and will provide onsite supervision contracted by the county.
